DSS was engaged as the owner’s representative to assist in the historic renovation and implementation of an ambitious development plan.
The historic Surf Club needed to be restored, and the owners also wanted to add a 10-story condominium tower and an 800-foot long parking garage.
How to build a parking garage under, and add a 10-story hotel rising through, an 80-year-old historic landmark?
DSS determined that the existing soil conditions and existing pilings would allow the Surf Club building to be supported on the tip of its 80-year-old existing pilings provided that lateral support was added. DSS’ recommendation was based on its study of the original structural plans and geotechnical reports.
A highly cost effective and streamlined building support system was implemented saving millions and more importantly enabling the project to proceed successfully.
